MARI MOURUJÄRVI, WELDER

After completing her welding degree in Outokumpu and a basic examination in the metal industry in Joensuu, Mari Mourujärvi worked at two other jobs before coming to Mantsinen Group. She has now been working at Mantsinen for two years.

THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF VARIETY MAKES WELDING WORK ENJOYABLE

A welder’s job at Mantsinen includes the welding of large equipment and machine parts weighing several, sometimes even tens of tonnes.

“What I like about my work is that there is enough variation; There is no need to learn something new every time, but the work is not repetitive “assembly line work” either.

THE DAYS START WITH CATCHING UP WITH THE COLLEAGUES

Each workday kicks off by catching up with the colleagues over a cup of coffee. If it’s the morning shift, the first thing we do is turn on the hall’s lights. Simultaneously, we discuss whether there are any pending tasks from the previous day, and if not, we proceed to the new ones.

Morning shifts start at 6 a.m. and evening shifts at 2 p.m. It is common for many of us to work until midnight during the evening shifts in order to have Fridays off. Of course, many work regular eight-hour shifts as well.

PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED THROUGH COMMUNICATION

We have a pleasant team where asking for help from anyone is encouraged if someone is unsure how to approach a task. If you do your job well, you can influence what you get to do. Even the supervisor is more flexible when things are executed effectively.

Speaking of our supervisor, they have a fair approach to management. If you have commitments that require you to be absent it’s acceptable when you notify them about it in advance. Flexibility is a two-way street; sometimes you have to work a little longer to complete an ongoing task, and if you’re asked to deal with a specific task, you are expected to prioritise and complete that task.

A RELAXED ATMOSPHERE AND GOOD EMPLOYEE BENEFITS MAKE THE JOB MORE SATISFYING

The atmosphere at work is relaxed, or as “relaxed” as it can be at work. There is a prevailing positive atmosphere, and tasks are done with a good mood. Moreover, we have access to Smartum benefits. I have used them for massages and I’m going to use it to get a VIP ticket for a Nightwish concert.
