MANTSINEN GROUP BEGINS OPERATIONS AT STORA ENSO’S OULU MILL
Mantsinen Group’s Logistics Services business unit signs a long-term agreement with Stora Enso Oulu mill.
Starting from July 1, 2024, Mantsinen will be responsible for operating the wood yard supply functions at the Oulu mill, along with other support functions. The new agreement is expected to create approximately 12 to 15 new jobs, depending on the final scope of operations.
In response to Stora Enso’s growing wood demand in Oulu, following the investments in the mill capacity, the agreement includes the use of an emission-free, electric-powered Mantsinen 90ER machine. The shared goal between the companies is to reduce emissions from the operations by developing both equipment as well as methods.
In addition to emission reductions, the safety factor plays a crucial role in the new wood yard operating model. The new model requires a comprehensive risk assessment in collaboration with the staff, so that potential challenges can be anticipated in advance, explains HSE Manager Jani Hujanen.
Mantsinen aims to contribute to the development of Stora Enso’s Oulu mill, whose second cardboard manufacturing machine is set to start producing renewable materials in the early part of 2025.
“We at Mantsinen have as a team developed an efficient solution for a low-emission wood supply and have convinced the customer that our experience as an innovator in wood handling brings responsibility and efficiency to the forefront of Oulu Mill wood yard.” says Ilkka Hujanen, Business Unit Director of Logistics Services.
